A collaboration between We Are Museums, the Västernorrlands Museum and One by One, "Beyond Digital" is a new series of meetups that will bring digital into the conversation through multiple perspectives.
Sessions will explore how and in what ways digital can be defined, and how it is oftentimes understood; how digital skills need to percolate across entire museum organigrams, not just bespoke departments now taking the lead; and how digital can contribute to future proof museums, perhaps rethink professions too or create the need for entirely new ones.
The first session will explore the current museum landscape to understand what type of digital, online and other similar developments are taking shape within the museum landscape. It will seek responses to the following research questions: How is online content understood? Is it really still understood as marketing proper or is it a problem of definitions? Is there a top-down digital literacy in place? Are the current circumstances enabling it or are we still far off the mark? Where do we really stand at this point in time? What are the knowledge gaps within the current museum landscape that the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed in unprecedented ways?
