ResiliArt

The ResiliArt debate in celebration of the International Year of Creative Economy for Sustainable Development will take place on 4 February 2021 from 15h30 to 17h00 Paris-time, in the margins of the 14th session of the Intergovernmental Committee of the 2005 Convention for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.

Moderated by Valériane Gauthier, France24 journalist, the debate will be opened by Ernesto Ottone R., UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Culture, and will bring together Jean Michel Jarre (composer, performer, and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador), Abderrahmane Sissako (acclaimed filmmaker of Timbuktu), Thomas Steffens (CEO of Primephonic, classical music streaming platform), Vanja Kaludjercic (Director of the International Film Festival Rotterdam) and Victoria Contreras (founder and General Director of the Association Conecta Cultura de México).

The debate will focus on how we can rebuild the creative and cultural industries in the aftermath of the COVID-19 Pandemic; it will consider how artists have used the digital sphere during the crisis and how sectors that rely on live audiences have adapted to the situation. Using the momentum of the International Year of Creative Economy for Sustainable Development, this debate will consider how these sectors can be reconstructed and be built back better after the pandemic.

In December 2019, when the President of the UN General Assembly declared 2021 the International Year of Creative Economy for Sustainable Development, the world looked very different. This international year promotes creative economy in the pandemic context. The lockdown measures taken to contain COVID-19 have hit the culture sector particularly hard, resulting in cultural institutions losing millions in revenue and letting go of their staff.

This event will examine how to revive the creative economy using the opportunity of the International Year of Creative Economy for Sustainable Development to make the creative sector more resilient in the face of future crises and to design cultural policies that are better aligned with the 2030 Agenda.

The event will be available on Facebook live and Webcast.
