MUŻE.X - Shaping Museum Futures is a biennial conference debating museum futures. The 2021 conference will take place in Malta and online (sessions in CET).
This conference seeks to present the latest thinking, actions and initiatives that modestly or radically depart from the traditional mould of curator/object-central spaces. The conference is keen on showcasing the latest developments in the museum landscape, be they conceptual initiatives or projects that are happening and evolving in the now, and which may well inform, influence and define the museum, particularly with regard to climate change, artificial intelligence and future technologies, but not just - anything that is absolutely unreasonable to predict a reasonable future for museums. It welcomes contributions from scholars, museum curators and directors, think-tanks, institutions and others working in the museum sector who act as or support game changers in the sector.
From October to December 2020, six pre-conference webinar events were presented on museum futures, by Nina Simon (CEO, OF/BY/FOR ALL); Diane Drubay (Founder, We Are Museums); Alistair Hudson (Director, Whitworth and Manchester Art Gallery); Kristin Alford (Director, MOD); Seb Chan (Chief Experience Officer, Australian Centre for the Moving Image); and Kayleigh Bryant-Greenwell (Head of Public Programs, Smithsonian American Art Museum and Renwick Gallery).
