Global Provenance

Organised in partnership with the University of of Bern, the Ethnography Museum of Geneva, the Ethnography Museum of Neuchâtel and the Palais de Rumine (Lausanne), the international conference "Global Provenance: Revisiting Appropriated Heritage in the Light of Inclusive Partnerships?" will be held virtually between 27 January 2021 and 2 February 2021 (sessions held at UTC+1).

The conference is organised in the framework of the exhibition "Exotic?" (Lausanne, Palais de Rumine, 24 September 2020 - 28 February 2021) and brings together more than 30 speakers. It proposes to revisit the appropriated heritages, whatever its nature (zoology, geology, botany, archaeology, history, history of art and ethnology), through inclusive collaborations.

A series of talks will address "Swiss Provenance Research and Colonial Contexts" (Recherche en provenance suisse et contextes coloniaux), moderated by Esther Tisa Francini (Museum Rietberg, Zürich); "Practicing Provenance Research" (Pratiquer la recherche en provenance), moderated by Emmanuel Kasarhérou (President, Musée du Quai Branly-Jacques Chirac); "Creating and Exhibiting: Reparation in Action?" (Créer et Exposer : des actions réparatrices ?), moderated by Senam Okudzeto (artist); "Collaborating: for whose Benefit?" (Collaborer : au bénéfice de qui ?), moderated by Prof. Noémie Etienne (University of Bern); and "Returning: from Causes to Consequences" (Restituer : des causes aux conséquences), moderated by Prof. Marc-André Renold (University of Geneva).
