Ibrahim Mahama will be discussing the studio space SCCA-Tamale and its aim to expand and propose spaces which art can occupy on the 16th July, 16:00-17:00 (British Summer Time).
He is an artist and founder of SCCA-Tamale, which showcased the life's work of Ghanaian artist Kofi Dawson for its opening show, 'In pursuit of something beautiful perhaps'. Curated by the Ghanaian performance artist Dr Bernard Akoi Jackson, the primary aim was to present Dawson’s work to the public from an unseen position. New paintings were produced specifically for the retrospective from old drawings and notes. His experiments over the decades and the forms those took were important towards building the contemporary attitude towards artistic production and it had influences across a generation of artists. Now the most important question is how art can be a gift to society beyond capital to produce a new generation of thinkers who can expand the meaning of life in whichever forms it takes.
Arts and Place NOW is a series of online conversations curated by the National Arts and Place Consortium that will shine a light on exemplar projects amplifying the artists' voice in placemaking and exploring the future role of artists working in the public realm.
