Night Scenes

Hosted by UCL Urban Laboratory, "Night Scenes" is the first conference linked to a three-year research project exploring nocturnal public spaces in eight cities in the Netherlands, Ireland, UK, Germany, Denmark and Portugal.

The research project, "Night spaces: migration, culture and integration in Europe", aims to positively influence policy approaches on night-time economies, helping to release the potential night spaces offer in creating more inclusive cities. Current policy attention to night-time urban economies, exemplified by the creation of night mayors, indicates increasing interest in the potential of cities and culture at night. The roundtable and conference will set out to explore night-time urban settings in their complexity as sites of crisis and regeneration, memory and heritage, visibility and invisibility, community solidarity and growth.

Due to COVID-19, this conference has been cancelled, but they will be exploring the feasibility of delivering parts of the conference in alternative formats over the next few weeks.
