Organised by ICOM France in collaboration with the National Heritage Institute (INP), this discussion on 26 November from 18:00 (Central European Time) will take into account the "new" definition of museums which is being debated within ICOM, the decolonisation of museums, the Restitutions around a bill in France of 26 objects from the war in Benin and Senegal, and the Black Lives Matter movement and the "unbolting" of statues.
What does 'museum' stand for? This question will be posed for museums at the time of COVID-19; when the concept of universality is being called into question; in the digital age when the museum comes to you on a screen; in the age of globalisation and the name of the museum is a brand name.
Speakers include Nathalie Bondil (Vice-Chair of the Canada Council for the Arts), Bruno Brulon-Soares (President of ICOFOM), Luc Eekhout (director of Stichting Kasteel Heeswijk), Ariane James-Sarazin (Deputy Director of the Army Museum), Emmanuel Kasarhérou (President of the musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac), Charles Personnaz (Director of the National Heritage Institute), and Yannick Lintz (Director of the Department of Islamic Arts, Louvre Museum), and will be moderated by Juliette Raoul-Duval and Hélène Vassal.
The session will be held in French, English, and Spanish.
