In collaboration with the Amsterdam School for Heritage, Memory and Material Culture at the University of Amsterdam and Nyenrode Business University, Art/Switch will kick off a trilogy of virtual conferences, [re]Framing the Arts: A Sustainable Shift, with a day on the theme "Institutional Approaches to Sustainability" on 31 October 2020 (4pm - 7pm Central European Time).
This will be followed by the themes "Reshaping Exhibition Practices" and "Sustainable Logistics & Conservation" in January and March 2021. These virtual conferences will function as an incubator for the growing discussion and action in the field of sustainability in the arts. In order to create a change in practice and thinking, these conferences will establish an interdisciplinary space for practitioners and academics to connect debates, enhance networks as well as initiate an international platform for the field of sustainability in the arts. A publication will follow the conferences, combining the experience of practitioners with the research of academics and the innovations of designers.
In this first edition, Institutional Approaches to Sustainability, we will focus in on the structural and institutional shift towards a carbon zero arts sector. We will discover the options for an environmentally sustainable building, discuss the organizational choices behind sustainable storage facilities and learn about sustainable climate control systems.
The speakers will also discuss how we might engage both individual operations and those on the international scale in adopting practices in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. If sustainability is an organizational priority, how can we adopt a holistic approach within our arts organizations and take responsibility for our actions?
Price: 27.41 EUR (Full registration for 3 conferences) or donations per conference
